ELFAC calls for a European strategy to support motherhood

This contribution has been submitted by European Large Families Confederation (ELFAC) in response to the European Commission’s Call for Evidence on the EU Action Plan for Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment in EU External Action 2028–2034 (GAP IV). 
 

ELFAC urges the European Commission to ensure that the European Child Guarantee takes into account the number of children in the household

Large families remain insufficiently recognised, despite being exposed to poverty risks at disproportionate levels.
 
ELFAC talked in the European Parliament’s conference “Europe, DNA of the future”

Organised and chaired by Hon. Mariateresa Vivaldini, MEP for the ECR Group, and mayor of Pavone del Mella (Brescia, Italy), the event “took place on 22 April at the European Parliament.

International Day Of Families 2026: Families, Inequalities and Child Wellbeing

The 2026 International Day of Families with a theme Families, Inequalities and Child Wellbeing aims to contribute to enhanced global understanding of how inequalities undermine family and child wellbeing and promote investments in integrated family-oriented policies.

Croatia presented what it describes as Europe’s most generous family support measures at a major conference in the European Parliament on 24 February , positioning itself at the forefront of efforts to tackle the continent’s deepening demographic crisis.
 

Current debate in Germany: Proposed reform of family co-insurance in the statutory health insurance system

Among these proposals is the suggestion to abolish or restrict the non-contributory co-insurance of spouses (“family insurance”), a long-standing element of the German solidarity-based system.

European Affordable Housing Plan – Responses across research, policy and practice

Article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that housing is a fundamental pillar of the right to a standard of living adequate for health and well-being. In spite of this, Europe is currently facing an unprecedented housing crisis.
